1 In 300 have this condition, I have it do you?

Chiari Malformation

Is your Doctor ignoring the obvious??

(the most misdiagnosed brain condition that can kill you!!!)

One in three hundred people have this condition and do not even know it.  Do you have chiari??

When was the last time you or a loved one was plagued with various symptoms where the doctor simply sent you home with a couple of pills without telling you anything about what was causing your symptoms?

Have you had any one or more of the following unexplained symptoms?

  • Headaches minor or severe that worsen with physical strain or coughing often accompanied with neck pain
  • numbness
  • tingling
  • dizziness
  • vision disturbances,  floaters, blurry curtain or flashing across your field of vision.etc
  • sleep disorders, apnea, snoring etc
  • restless leg syndrome
  • nausea
  • trouble swallowing
  • muscle weakness
  • tremors
  • twitching
  • pain in extremities
  • ear pain and disturbances
  • heart palpitations
  • feeling like your floating
  • excessive sweating while at rest
  • etc.. the possible symptom list is endless.

These are all possible symptoms of Arnold Chiari Malformation and if you have Chiari, any one of these symptoms are a danger to your way of life as you know it.

While some people with this condition will have no symptoms at all their whole lives, and others may suffer with only one or two symptoms, there are so many out there that suffer from many or even all these symptoms without knowing what is causing them.

Up until a few years ago although they knew what this condition was, they never connected it with these symptoms, because for many years and even current medical books are not accurate on the subject of chiari malformation and it's symptoms and dangers.  The medical field has been taught in medical school that "Chiari Malformation is a common genetic condition and chiari type I  is usually not considered to be fatal, but only becomes a danger to life when it becomes symptomatic."  Since they are not taught to look out for it, they do not.

What this means is that your doctor has been trained to "not see" chiari as a threat to your life until you are showing severe life threatening symptoms, and even then he will investigate other causes first, because they are trained to do so. In the meanwhile people are dying from this condition, because doctors do not consider it to be the cause till it is too late to treat. Sadly most chiari deaths could have been prevented with decompression surgery. Death comes to chiari patients mainly from the brain stem being crushed, death comes quickly and without warning.

Herein lies the problem facing chiari patients worldwide, doctors may know or not know that we have Chiari, but in either case many of those same doctors do not normally consider it important to tell you that you have it. Because of there lack of knowledge they may not take action or investigate the above symptoms as being connected to chiari, sadly most of them do not know that a chiari malformation may be the major cause of any of these symptoms.

Chiari affects children and adults. There is no "cure" for chiari malformation. Treatment options depend on the type of malformation and severity of symptoms. If symptoms are mild, regular monitoring and medications can be effective to help with the symptoms. However, symptoms typically progress and worsen over time, especially with brain or neck trauma.

Surgery may be recommended to remove a part of the skull bone and create space for the cerebellum and brain stem to alleviate symptoms, avoid permanent nerve damage and prevent sudden death. An accurate diagnosis and prompt treatment are important to prevent permanent injury to the nervous system. A neurosurgeon with expertise in Chiari can use imaging studies to confirm the diagnosis and recommend a treatment for each unique Chiari case.

Be informed, make sure you doctor is aware of the dangers of chiari malformation and look at old MRI studies if possible or have one done if you are plagued with any of these symptoms.   Follow the link below and print out a flier for your doctor to read, and make sure he reads it. Talk it over with your doctor, or get a second opinion before ignoring your symptoms.

Of the several types of Chiari malformations, Chiari I is the most common and affects both children and adults.
